I’m Flis Plent and I live and garden in Saffron Walden, Essex. I can help you to transform your garden, teach you how to grow healthy plants and learn to love your garden – here’s why I’m qualified to do this:

I’m the former ‘Head of Learning’ at Cambridge University Botanic Garden, so I’ve taught hundreds of children, adults, students and teachers about plants and gardening. While working at the Botanic Garden I designed and taught on ‘Learn to Garden’ courses for beginner gardeners, ran community gardening projects, and delivered RHS ‘Campaign for School Gardening’ training for teachers.

I studied horticulture, historic gardens and garden design at Writtle College, and then designed gardens for over 10 years before joining the Botanic Garden in 2009.  I’ve been growing fruit, vegetables and cut flowers on allotments for 20 years, as well as tending my own garden at home for as long as I can remember.

I know that the more you understand how and why plants grow the way they do, the better gardener you will be. Understanding even the basics of what a plant is actually trying to do will transform your ability to look after it.

I also know that being surrounded by plants helps make people happier – research proves it too.  But instead of blowing my own trumpet, I’d rather you heard why I’m the right person to help you from people who I have worked with before – so please take a look at the testimonials from previous clients.

And of course please do get in touch to find out more.
